L’industria della carne dietro deforestazione e incendi: ecco perché il Brasile brucia
“Perché il Brasile brucia?” Oggi pubblichiamo nuovi video esclusivi che provano il ruolo dell’industria della carne e degli allevamenti intensivi nei roghi e negli incendi che distruggono le foreste del Pantanal e la savana del Cerrado.

Grazie al nostro reportage, narrato per noi in esclusiva dalla cantautrice Giorgia, abbiamo documentato le fiamme che distruggono la foresta in Brasile e appreso da attivisti e vigili del fuoco locali il ruolo che gli allevatori e l’industria della carne hanno in questa deforestazione che serve a guadagnare terreno per i pascoli per i bovini o per la coltivazione di soia.
I colpevoli di questi roghi che stanno - letteralmente - distruggendo il Pianeta rimangono troppo spesso impuniti, ma ad alimentare questi fuochi è la domanda di carne a livello mondiale.
Il Brasile, infatti, è il più grande produttore ed esportatore di carne bovina al mondo, questa carne arriva così sulle tavole in ogni angolo del mondo, Italia compresa.
Gli incendi stanno letteralmente distruggendo il polmone verde della Terra, e per questo stiamo chiedendo al Congresso brasiliano e alle istituzioni internazionali di intraprendere azioni specifiche affinché l’industria della carne sia considerata responsabile dei suoi crimini e per mettere al riparo animali e ambiente da queste illegalità.

The protection of Brazil's rich ecosystem
has always been considered of
fundamental importance for the entire
planet,
yet this fragile reality is under
constant attack from fires and
deforestation,
both caused by humans.
Animal quality reveals why
these regions, so important to
everyone's life, are burning.
Brazil is the leading producer of
beef and soy, which
is mostly used as
feed for chickens, pigs, fish, and other
animals in factory farms
around the world.

dogs, but either confined to communities and stressed, are
in difficulty.
Pantanella is the largest wetland
in the world. In 2020,
29 percent of the Pantanal's wetlands were burned,
an area equivalent to 6 million soccer fields.
Factory farms are
responsible for more than eighty
percent of deforestation in Brazil.

15 farms that are
current or recent suppliers of major
Brazilian meat processing companies

linked to the devastating 2020 fires
in the pantanal to environmental violations and
or irregularities in the registration
of the property in 2018 and 2019
these fifteen farms were
linked directly or indirectly
to at least 14 meat processing plants
owned by gps marfrig
and minerva that trade globally
50 percent of the serrato savannah
and
an area equivalent to the size of
spain england italy and Portugal
combined,
Brazil is the
world's largest exporter of beef, sold to 154
countries.
In 2020 alone,
more than 44 million cows were slaughtered in Brazil, and
20 percent were exported.
Even more alarmingly, 99
percent of this deforestation occurs
illegally. Suppliers in Brazil fail
to track and monitor animals throughout
the entire supply chain.
The current system only verifies
the last supplier before an animal
reaches the slaughterhouse, failing to monitor
movements through
non-compliant farms that deforest
illegally.
Without an effective tracking system,
animals from
illegally deforested areas can be
sent directly to unauthorized slaughterhouses
where the cruelest practices occur.
This is a vicious cycle that begins with
meat production in Brazil. A
constantly expanding phenomenon.
To keep up with the market,
fires are set, forests
are destroyed, and ever more cattle
are raised, only to end up at the
slaughterhouse amidst atrocious suffering
and constantly increasing profits.
Revenues from animal exploitation
are
continuously incentivized by ranchers to deforest
more and more.
At this time, the Pantanal and Serrado
are more in danger than ever. The
ever-increasing production of
meat and soy for
intensive ranching is the main cause of the
destruction of Brazilian forests and wetlands.
