Between February 20, 24
and 2025,
animal equality conducted an undercover investigation into
the goat meat industry of India, revealing shocking cruelty
and illegal practices at every step of the production.
We Visited seven farms, five livestock markets,
and forced lot of facilities across Maharashtra, U, pr,
Jaran, and Bihar.
And what we found was shocking.
In every single case, the law was being blatantly violated
at farms, goats are confined in filthy, cramped spaces,
some locked in small cages.
Others died down with painfully short ropes,
barely able to move.
Many endure untreated illnesses
and injuries left
to suffer without veterinary care at the markets.
Goats are death hurt in harsh conditions without proper
access to food, water,
or shelter
workers handle them brutally.
Many are transported in horrific bays,
some crammed onto more bikes.

before reaching the slaughterhouse,
they are melt one last time.
Their journey only gets worse.
Goats are thrown onto vehicles packed tightly
into tempos and trucks.
A direct violation of India's transport rules,
which require each goat
to have at least 0.16 square meters of space.
And at slaughter, the cruelty gets worse.
With no pain relief, their throats are slit open, then
in a final indignity.
Their lifeless bodies are pumped with air.
To make skinning easier by law,
animals must be slaughtered in licensed slaughterhouses.
Yet we found goats being illegally killed in open markets
and roadside meat shops.
A clear violation of India's prevention of Cruelty
to Animals Act of 1960
and various rules formed barren
In every facility we investigated.
These laws are completely ignored.
This is the reality of goat meat industry unseen,
unregulated, unimaginably cruel,
