EXCLUSIVE: Animal Equality investigates the 2024 Gadhimai animal sacrifice
Animal Equality exposes the world’s largest animal sacrifice at the Gadhimai festival in Nepal. Animal Equality has been actively campaigning to end animal sacrifice at the Gadhimai festival since 2014, with investigators and volunteers on the ground to report on the horrors inflicted on helpless animals before and during the festival.
This year, officials and the temple committee were trying to hide the truth even more— by not just banning filming but putting up taller walls, hiding dead animals under hay and using smoke machines to obscure visibility during sacrifice. Police resorted to hitting those who try to show this suffering—including members of our team.
But we persisted for the animals, and the supporters of the cause, so that you could witness the atrocities inflicted on animals at the 2024 Gadhimai festival.

the kadimi festival that is held every 5
years in Nepal took place in December
2024 animal equality has campaigned
tirelessly to put a stop to the animal
sacrifice at the gimi festival since
2014 it's only thanks to the help of our
activists volunteers and supporters in
India and worldwide that we can work to
end this brutal Massacre
forever most of the animals sacrificed
at the gimi festival are forced to walk
for hours sometimes days others are
transported in cramped suffocating
conditions in trucks they suffer this
long journey stared for food and water
pigeons are packed into bamboo baskets
cages and plastic on net bags with no
breathing space
devotees gather before the festival to

animals this marks the beginning of the
sacrifice selected devotees were given a
license by the temple committee to carry

sacrifice none of these executioners had
any experience in slaughtering animals
and many of them were intoxicated

Red Cross Society of Nepal to organize a
blood donation camp where devotees give
their blood to appease the day day and

the sacrifice despite several
difficulties obtaining exclusive footage
so the world can see the barbaric
cruelty inflicted on animals at the gimi
festival watching this cruel footage it
is easy to get discouraged but there is
Reason for Hope while the temple was
expecting to slaughter more buffos 1,500
buffos were killed though we mourn the
tragic number of lives still lost we are
heartened to know our efforts have been
