Cruel and illegal practices in the pork industry exposed

Between February
and July, 2024,
animal equality conducted an undercover investigation
into the Polk industry.
We investigated six farms
and three slaughter facilities in Maharashtra, Kela, radesh,
and GaN, and found blatant illegalities In each case.
In India, it is common to see pigs on street,
and one may assume they are stray animals.
But these pigs are ultimately slaughtered for meat,
and this meat is consumed
by the poor sections of the society.
Pigs are also bred in farms at these farms.
They're segregated as per their gender and age,
and are confined in those pens.
Farm owners do not provide proper feed to the pigs.
They collect leftover food from the restaurants
and give that as feed to the pigs.
The owner of this farm in Jaran said they practice this
as a means to reduce cost.
The workers on the farm handle pigs cruelly at a farm.
In we saw workers hating them the sticks
to move them out of the pen.
Because of this, it is common to see bruises on pigs.
Pigs are confined in childhood places
and forced to live in their own excrement,
making them susceptible to infectious diseases.
This, despite the fact that pigs are clean animals
and are particular about keeping their surroundings clean,
The journey of pigs to the slaughter place is full
of misery at farms.
The pigs who do not bo the Waco, are beaten into submission
while the pigs on streets are tied by the legs,
put in bags, and loaded on rickshaws or scooters.
From our investigation in 2015, we documented
how some meat shops in Kerala
practice the barbaric hammer slaughter,
where the pig is repeatedly bludgeoned
with a hammer on the head till the pig falls unconscious.
While in other places they are stabbed in the heart several
times before they die.
I, everything you've seen here
directly violates India's prevention of cruelty
to animals act of 1960,
and various rules formed therein.
Still, our investigation found these laws disregarded at
every facility we visited.
