Animal Equality investigation – Animal sacrifices continue at the Gadhimai temple

The Gima Animal sacrifice is considered as the world's largest animal
sacrifice and takes place every five years in southern Nepal,
the latest cycle of animal sacrifice began on
3rd of December, 2019,
and animal equality was on the ground to film the horror.
There was another animal sacrifice slated on
15th of January, 2020,
and our investigators were once again on the ground to document the brutalities
inflicted on animals for the garima animal sacrifice.
Many of the animal sacrifice at the latest Karima Festival event were
again forced to travel for many hours and days without food or water,
only to be slaughtered in the most brutal way possible.
Horribly, thousands of goats were sacrificed this way.
Buffaloes were also mutilated and tortured by devotees.
The executioners had no experience slaughtering animals and usually
were not able to behead the animals in one attempt. Instead,
these executioners mercilessly hacked the animals to death,
oftentimes taking dozens of strikes to complete the slaughter.
Pigeons also experienced the terrible cruelty of the Garima festivals closing
ceremony after their wings were clipped.
These gentle birds were thrown on the rooftop of the temple to be later
slaughtered for their meat.
Animal equality has been campaigning tirelessly to put a stop to
the animal sacrifice at the Garima Festival. Thanks to the activist,
supporters and volunteers worldwide,
we have made great strides to end this cruelty,
but the massacre continues and so must our work.
We strongly believe that we are close to the ending of the Garima animal
