Diseases that spread to the point of
becoming pandemics,
soil and water pollution, and the production of greenhouse gases.
Who is the main culprit behind all
these phenomena?
Thanks to drone technology,
our team of investigators in Mexico
managed to obtain aerial images of
two intensive farms in the state of
Qadis. We know that more than
89,000 pigs are confined there, but what
environmental and humanitarian threats
exactly were behind the intensive farms?
Let's start by talking about water, a
natural resource indispensable for
human life. To produce half a kilo of
pork, more than
12,000 liters of drinking water are needed.
Official data indicate that
raising pigs for human consumption
uses 4 percent of all
renewable drinking water in Mexico. But that
's not all. In addition to wasting millions of
liters of drinking water,
this industry, in which in just
as many others, mismanagement and the
lack of treatment of animal feces and
urine contribute to
soil and water pollution
and are a source of infectious diseases for
humans.
These tanks filled with excrement
up to They continually emit greenhouse gases.
Not only are they also
breeding grounds for disease,
they contain over
100 different pathogens that can
cause human disease. Just
think, a single gram of
pig feces can contain up to
100 million bacteria. The discharge of
this waste into the open reaches the
surrounding soil
through rainwater drains and
causes particles to infiltrate
into the subsoil, contaminating fields and
groundwater.
Thanks to the report drawn up by our
investigators,
we were able to ascertain the extent of the
risks and environmental damage caused
by the intensive farming system.
We were able to observe irregularities
in the management of hazardous waste and
in water consumption during the rainy season.
The environmental impact of these
farms is, if possible, even
worse because the excrement is
discharged into natural waterways,
further polluting the
surrounding ecosystem. How can farms
like these continue to operate as
if nothing was happening?
Surprisingly, until the time of
our investigation, these companies
enjoyed government permits to
continue operating following
the investigation. Animal and Quality has
filed several complaints against these
farms
for acts and omissions that
could produce ecological imbalances
and environmental damage
but this is only the first step it is not
possible that throughout the world including Italy
companies like these continue
their activities undisturbed
continuing to profit from the
animals of the planet and to the detriment of
our health
all this must end Animal and
Quality will continue to work
so that the authorities and the government
take concrete actions to
definitively close
the farms that are guilty of
environmental crimes and so that the
damage already caused is repaired please
share this video and help us
reach more and more people to
spread awareness on this
topic still too little known
thanks
